Our Communities

For the purposes of language access needs in health care, it is helpful to view California through the lens of our state's African-American, Latino, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander populations.

In documenting the experience of these populations with California's health care system, our friends at the California Pan Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) have pioneered much of the research surrounding the health and language needs of these aforementioned communities.

Below is a list of resources that should prove useful in better understanding how medical interpreters play a vital role in making health care a reality for the almost 7 million Californians with language access needs.
